Christmas Engagement?

More people get engaged at Christmas or New Year than on St. Valentine’s Day. If you were one of those couples it’s now time to start preparing for the big day: and Mama Cakes is here to help.
When and where?
The first thing you’ll have to think about is where you’re going to get married, and when. As soon as you have a date and venues fixed it’s worth getting on with researching and booking the various suppliers you want – our order book can be busy up to two years in advance, depending on the time of year of the wedding.
Budget
Everybody knows that weddings can cost a fortune, and so having a budget in your head from the outset and working out how much of that can be allocated to the cake is a good idea. If you visit our ‘pricing’ page you’ll see how we build up our prices: basically the more ornate the cake the more it will cost. Consider whether you want everybody to have a slice of a highly decorated cake or whether a small, simpler cake might suffice with a gorgeous dessert table and/or cake-based wedding favours. Of course if you want to be lavish then a dessert table, a sumptuous eye-catching cake and cake wedding favours as well could be a real winner!
Wedding Fairs
Wedding Fairs are a great place to get ideas, and Cumbria has a selection coming up in January, February and March which give you a chance to visit some of the venues as well as meet potential suppliers.
Netherwood Hall – Sunday 29th January
Derwentwater Hotel – Sunday 12th February
Armathwaite Hall – Sunday 19th February
Easterbrook Hall – Sunday 19th February
Laura Ashley The Belsfield – Sunday 26th February
Rothay Manor – Sunday 5th March
Askham Hall – Sunday 12th March
Online advice
Clearly there’s a huge amount of information about weddings online, including visual ideas on Pinterest and Instagram. We have links to local suppliers who we work with and who we are happy to recommend; in addition there are Cumbria-based Facebook pages such as Cumbria Weddings (Barrow-based); Cumbrian Weddings (a CN group-linked page); The Memory Knot Co. (wedding planner based in Alston) – and of course don’t forget to visit Mama Cakes’ own facebook page, www.facebook.com/MamaCakesCumbria/
Cake details
Once you know the style you want for your wedding, then you can start to think of a complementary cake design – but if you find you’re short of ideas, don’t worry – we can help. We provide an initial cake taster session at which you can taste different flavours of cake and icing, and see and discuss design ideas. We can also advise on what type of cake might be best for your chosen venue, number of guests or time of year – although we don’t often have heatwaves in Cumbria, you don’t want a chocolate cake which melts in the heat of mid-August.
The cake is often the centrepiece of the reception, and we know how important it is to get it right. MamaCakes will work with you and your ideas to create and deliver the perfect cake for you and your dreamy special day.
